Contrary to popular belief that teeth have perfectly symmetrical dimensions in the left and right halves of the dental arch, research has repeatedly shown that teeth can show some degree of asymmetry. In this case, it is not surprising that the ratio of mandibular to upper teeth is far from acceptable (Bolton Discrepancy). In such cases, the patient’s treatment plan is slightly different from the classical cases and requires the follow-up of methods that can eliminate or at least reduce this size disorder. These methods vary from reducing the width of the anterior teeth to removing one of them depending on the severity of the existing dental malformation.

It should be noted that the relationship between the maxillary and mandibular canines is one of the main goals of an orthodontic treatment that prevents this disorder of the size of the anterior teeth. In order to solve this problem, we should try to create the right ratio as much as possible.

Elimination of the problem by reducing the width of the tooth (Stripping) is a process that has been done in many patients presented in these pages and can not be examined until accurate measurement, but there are cases where the severity of this anomaly is such that removing An anterior tooth can fix it.

Because the clinical presentation of this group of patients is similar to the lack of dental space, sometimes patients are referred who mistakenly extracted four wrong teeth during treatment, but unfortunately in the final stages of treatment again with compressed or crowded teeth in the ward. The front teeth come in and come to me with the question, “Despite pulling four teeth out of my mouth, I still have clenched teeth, why?”

This page presents patients who have attempted to obtain a suitable relationship by extracting a front tooth.
